How to Get Your Photography Into Exhibitions/Galleries

For most photographers, having their work showcased in galleries or exhibitions is a great achievement. The trick, especially among beginners, is in finding the space since such opportunities are always very competitive. The good news is that it is not impossible. Once you know how to find your way around, you will be among the artists whose work is being viewed in galleries or exhibitions. It does not matter if you are doing portrait, lifestyle, or fine art photography. The guide to getting your work out there is as follows.

Start Small

It does not hurt to dream big. After all, it is only when you dream big that you challenge yourself to do better. When it comes to getting your photography into galleries or exhibitions, you should not ignore the small showrooms. Look at when the next event will be coming up at a place near you, and find out if there will be any activity near you. Follow the art section of news sections to learn what people around you are doing. You may get a call for registration, and it could be your big break.

Follow Rules

In most cases, every showing in a gallery or exhibition will have a rule on who can enter, and the type of photos that they need. If you do not send what conforms to their rules, you can be sure that you will be disqualified. What makes most photographers not make it to the galleries and exhibitions is because they do not spend time reading the rules and understanding what is needed of them. In case of any confusion or doubt, you should reach out to organizers.

Be a Member of an Art/Photography Club

In some of the cases, priority is given to artists who belong to a club. That is why it is always advisable that you become affiliated with a club so that you get information early enough for you to apply. Club membership also gives you access to numerous opportunities, among them being that you will be allowed to join galleries and exhibitions. Start the application process early enough so that you are not cut by the deadline.
